Resting day and meeting friends 25/10
Today was a casual, restful day. I managed to visit the city of Saintes under a heavy sun, which was really enjoyable. It warmed my body, my soul, and my heart.
I went to a library to get a small notebook and a pen. The lady there was really nice and gave me an old sticker with the coat of arms of the city of Saintes. I then sat at a table to write down my thoughts in my new notebook and enjoyed some nice tea.
Afterward, I walked around the charming city. It’s divided into an upper and a lower part, and I visited some of the main churches. In one of them, there was an exhibition about Saint Theresa, who died at 24 from tuberculosis. The whole exhibition seemed to emphasize how much she suffered, which made her a saint (I'm barely exaggerating…). Catholicism and the glorification of pain—I feel like this walk just keeps strengthening my choice to give up on religion.
On top of that, I met two people, which was a big deal after 11 days without encountering anyone. We had a drink together, cooked, ate, and talked for a while before sleeping.
